How to design a crate for a metal frame with ST mechanism?
A well-designed crate is the key to many years of durability not only of the whole structure, but also of the metal frame.
In this short post we will try to explain how to build a sturdy bed box using the products available in our offer.
At the outset, we would like to point out that these are only small tips for people who have no experience in bed construction.
DIRECTION OF PLATES AT WHAT DISTANCE TO MAKE DISTANCES FROM THE HEADBACK APPLIES ONLY TO METAL BEDS BASED ON THE ST LIFTING MECHANISM - ALL BEDS FOR 24 AND 48 LETTERS (in the name SIDE or BOX) -NOT APPLY TO MULTIBOX PRODUCT
1. Box dimensions
For the crate project in this article, we will use slightly different dimensions than the recommended minimum included in the product description (they are also correct).
Used furniture board thickness 18mm - the thicker the better.
INTERIOR dimension of the box:
Width depending on the size of the mattress: 820/920/1220/1420/1620/1820/2020mm
Length: 2020mm
Height: 400mm
For bolting and stiffening the box, we recommend using angle brackets of our production:

and angle brackets opole:
https://kavon.pl/en_US/p/Angle-bracket-opole/180
2. Rack supports.
Single frames i.e. 80/90/100x200cm require 4 supports (best placed in each corner).
Double frames i.e. 120-200x200cm size require 5 supports (corners + under the middle beam).
Example use of supports in case of double frame:
Used accessories:
4 pieces - https://kavon.pl/en_US/p/Metal-corner-bracket-for-frame-BLACK-sheet-2/13 - one piece in each corner
4 pieces - https://kavon.pl/en_US/p/Angle-bracket-opole/180 - one piece in each corner, instead you can use an angle hitch:

Fixing the center beam:
We recommend dividing the box into two compartments and resting the frame on the board. To bolt this element, you can use
An angle bracket opole (as shown below) - https://kavon.pl/en_US/p/Angle-bracket-opole/180
or a beam connector along the bed - https://kavon.pl/en_US/p/Center-beam-connector-for-bed/24
It is possible to make a box without dividing it into compartments, but then additional reinforcements under the side profiles and use of an adjustable leg under the middle beam are required:

3. Drilling for lifting mechanism
For many customers, the key information is at what distances to design the holes and how to bolt the mechanism to the bed box.
When it comes to how to install it is a matter of individual choice - you can use wood screws, but we recommend using upholstery muffs and screwing the mechanisms in place - available in our store HERE
Returning to the bores and their distances in the case of the box we are designing in this article, we have used the following distances from the BOTTOM.
Please note from what point to which dimension is counted. Is it located on the outside or inside of the crate.
Dimension accuracy +- 1mm.

4. Fitting the actuators under the mattress.
If you are inexperienced and have not tested various solutions then please follow the tables on the page of the particular frame.
There is often a misconception among our customers "the more powerful the better" which is absolutely not true. On our site we provide actuators that fit most standard mattresses on the market and the power is matched with a slight reserve.
WARNING! A common mistake made is to try to manually close the actuator or, after installation, to try to forcibly close or hang onto the frame without the target load, i.e. the mattress. Remember! After assembling the frame in the bed box, after installing the actuators on the lifting mechanism, please place the target mattress first, and then try to close. It is not possible to assemble the actuators without the load which is the mattress. If the actuators prove to be too weak or too strong remember that it is possible to replace them.
Mounting the actuators ALWAYS with the thicker part towards the top!!
